Knautia macedonica

A deep, muted purple with clear notes of rust woven through the surface, inspired by the Macedonian scabious flower, a species in the Knautia genus. The colour moves between violet, dried blood-red, and oxidised iron — where purple is grounded by earthy rust tones rather than sweetness or brightness. It reflects the flower’s natural palette: dark, weathered, and quietly intense.

In Varv, the pronounced texture allows these tones to surface unevenly. Rust and purple shift against one another across the sculptural yarn, creating depth and movement without contrast. It is a colour that feels grown rather than made — organic, tactile, and enduring.

Varv is a twist on our nutidenyarn - all is still 100% Swedish wool and Swedish made - but with a twist - a unique twist on spun and unseen yarn mixed into a very special yarn. 

Varv comes in different thicknesses -

Notera/ please note :  

We take great pride in doing things by hand - so all blends will always be unique and will ALWAYS variate. 

Always hand-wash natural wool - always note that we do not use bleach or any other chemicals cleaning wool - therefore it will have natural materials in it - so the first rinse of water can be dirty (tip - use the water to water your plants - they will LOVE it! 

We only use certified pigments, salt and vinegar when dyeing
